Spring Break travel brings excitement and anticipation for a sunny getaway with friends and family. It can also bring an increase in travel volumes, especially international travel, leading to longer lines and busier crowds. For an efficient and positive experience, we’ve compiled our essential airport tips for Spring Break, so you and your family can fly to the sun smoothly!

Security & TSA

Make your trip through the TSA security checkpoint easier by packing your carry-on bags carefully so they comply with TSA guidelines. Be sure to follow the 3-1-1 liquids rule: each passenger can pack liquids, gels, and aerosols in containers of 3.4 ounces (100 ml) or less, all fitting into one quart-sized bag. Pro Tip: Feeling unsure about items in your carry on? You can get live support from TSA, by texting “TRAVEL” to 275-872. Receive answers to your travel questions in real-time, so you can quickly and confidently move through security.

Arrival Time

Although the Casper Airport is a short 20-minute drive from most homes in town, don’t underestimate the need to arrive at the airport early. Unexpected events and longer wait times can cause a delay in your day and airport journey. We suggest you arrive at least 90 minutes before your scheduled flight. If you are flying with checked luggage, you must arrive at least 45 minutes before your departure time, or your baggage may not be checked by the airline.

Identification

Make sure you have the right ID for your trip. As of last year, travelers 18 years or older are required to have a REAL ID, marked with a star, a U.S. Passport/Passport Card, or other accepted federal document to board domestic flights. Luckily for Wyoming residents, we’ve had REAL IDs since 2011! Pro-tip: If you’re traveling internationally, make sure your passport does not expire in the next six months for secure return travel to the U.S.

Preparation & Efficiency

The key to an efficient trip through the airport is to prepare well ahead of your arrival. Before you even leave home, check in for your flight online, understand parking, download your boarding pass, and monitor your flight for time changes. Once you’re at the airport, keep your IDs and boarding pass handy, and empty out your water bottle before security to keep your airport experience smooth.

Health & Safety

It’s Spring Break, but it’s still cold and flu season! Stay healthy during your travels by packing sanitary wipes to clean surfaces, washing hands thoroughly, and keeping medications handy in your carry-on bag. Remember, if you’re flying to a sunny destination, don’t forget to practice sun safety by wearing sunscreen and staying hydrated.
